Welcome to SkolbarnAfrika

What is SkolbarnAfrika? *)

SkolbarnAfrika is a non-profit Swedish organization.

SkolbarnAfrika ´s goal is to empower children and young adults living in poverty in the townships around Cape Town to gain access to education, practical training and learning social responsibility.

SkolbarnAfrika does this by providing financial support to individuals and to scout activities based on Christian values.

SkolbarnAfrika is unique as a charity organization in the sense that every collected cent goes to the work in Cape Town without any reduction.

SkolbarnAfrika supports scouting activities

SkolbarnAfrika supports the organization Pathfinder´s work in South Africa. They have several outposts around Cape Town. The outposts meet every week and about 350 children, young people and leaders are involved. The program includes outdoor adventures through camping, mountain climbing, as well as other challenging outdoor activities.  Through the program the scouts learn basic values like being alert, clean, honest, courageous, loyal, courteous, obedient and spiritual.

Many children never leave "their” street in the township. Therefore the leaders try to expand the children's world by taking them to other places for new experiences. They do hiking in the beautiful countryside or walk along the beaches. This also provides an opportunity for scouts from different outposts to meet each other.

SkolbarnAfrika supports individuals

SkolbarnAfrika helps individuals to gain access to good education. We have sponsors who support children during the whole schooling program up to grade 12 (matric) and even further in colleges and universities. In South Africa all education is expensive. You have to pay high tuition fees and course fees. The money transferred through SkolbarnAfrika provides for all kinds of school fees, and also for school supplies and transportation.

Current projects

Funds raised by SkolbarnAfrika are used for scouting, individual support, sponsorship and also for other important projects. Below you can see how the money is used in three different projects.

  1. 1.  The situation in South Africa with the spread of corona has basically closed down the country. This has led to a lack of food for many of our scouts and their families. SkolbarnAfrika has therefore initiated a temporary aid project called MAT (=food). Through Pathfinder’s care, vouchers have been distributed for the purchase of food for the needy. In the first round, 132 vouchers were distributed to our various scout groups. In the second-round also food parcels were distributed to more families. Additional funds are needed because families need food continually. It is during difficult times that solidarity with the poorest is tested. If you want to support our work, do so by submitting a contribution to SkolbarnAfrika  (bg 255-6033 or pg 592345-3). For international gifts, use our IBAN (SE 3095000099601805923453, BIC-kod: NDEASESS). Label the payment: FOOD. The amount you donate goes in full to help with food and supplies and in addition you receive tax reduction in Sweden according to current rules.

2. In some dry sand dunes near the sea lies a township with the strange name of "7 de Laan". There are about 60 extremely poor families living in shacks. Almost everyone is unemployed and struggling with brokenness, trauma or abuse that has lead many to be caught in drug and alcohol addiction. A German organization (www.ho-sa.org) has built a community centre there with a day-care center where they teach 18 children aged 3-5 yrs and also serve them a meal. They also provide men’s and women’s fellowship groups to give spiritual encouragement based on Biblical Christian values and practical advice and counseling towards a future where they can see their lives and community transformed. Thabo and Diana Sebalabala are part of this team and have a passion to help these children as well as their families. Through SkolbarnAfrika there is now an opportunity to financially support Thabo and Diana in their voluntary and unpaid work.
